Submit Your Proposal

Are you ready for proposal submission? The Office of Research and Grants Administration must first review and approve your proposal before we submit it to an external sponsor, as well as other key parties on campus. Before you submit your proposal to us, please review the following checklist (we also recommend you print it, if you'd like!):

Did you...

  • Read all sponsor rules and regulations for proposal submission?

  • Develop your proposal in accordance with the sponsor's needs and College policies?

  • Contact ORGA with any budget questions or proposal development needs?

  • Contact the committees on human participants or lab animals in research if you plan on interacting with either in the course of your project? You can only claim pending or non-approval of research in your proposal if the respective committee has not both received and explicitly approved or exempted your research.

  • Notify your department chair and dean of any course buyouts or tuition waivers?
If you have, the final step in proposal submission to ORGA for approval is filling out and printing/signing the Proposal Summary and Approval form, found below.

ORGA Proposal Summary and Approval Form

The ORGA Proposal Summary and Approval Form is used as a cover sheet for all external funding proposals sent to ORGA. This form, and accompanying proposal and/or application, should be submitted at least two weeks before the sponsor's proposal deadline.

Please note that no new proposals will leave the Office of Research and Grants Administration without the ORGA Proposal Summary and Approval Form's completion and submission. This form is mandatory as it allows administration a chance to review your goals while also ensuring you receive full administrative support, and you are responsible for collecting all signatures. This is because you are most familiar with your project, can most easily answer the questions that will dictate College support of the proposal and will become professionally responsible for execution of the program/research and funding should funding be provided. It is also the formal representation that all affected parties on campus were both made aware of and support your endeavors.

The preceding form must be submitted at least two weeks prior to application deadline.

Award notification

Please note that some funding agencies can take up to six months after proposal submission in notifying us of project approval or disapproval. Notification is often received directly by ORGA. If you receive a Notification of Grant Award, or NGA, please deliver it to our office as soon as possible. If a proposal is returned for revisions, please contact us. Budget revisions will require additional approval before resubmission. Negotiations must also be handled primarily by the Office of Research and Grants Administration.

If your proposal is not funded, note that most federal agencies have established procedures for communicating reviewers' comments. This is important, as past experience has shown that these comments can be extremely helpful to investigators in formulating resubmissions.
