Writing Your Proposal
I've found funding! Now how do I get it?
The simple answer: Writing a proposal! Of course, while the act of writing a proposal can be time-consuming and difficult the Office of Research and Grants Administration is happy to assist. Please visit our
basic proposal writing section to learn about common proposal elements, regardless of the sponsor, and visit our
budget primer for an in-depth budget guide.
What does RIC need from me?
As the program or project director of your future grant you'll be known as its PI, or principal investigator. You will have responsibilities to the College and to the sponsor both in "preaward" (before your proposal is awarded) time and also in "postaward management" (the spending of awarded funds and execution of the program.) Please
review the College's requirements for proposals.
What about sponsors?
Sponsors can and typically do have varying requirements for grant proposals. However, be they private or public, federal or non-federal, there are "best practices" and common data most need to have.
Visit our advanced proposal preparation guide for more tips on writing a successful proposal.
This sponsor form is asking me for special numbers and codes. Where do I get them? And how do I figure out indirect cost/F&A?
Please
visit our proposal preparation data page for a full listing of the College's identifying data and current figures on indirect cost rates, fringe benefit rates and more.
Do you have any examples of successful proposals I can review?
Certainly! Please proceed to the
examples page to see more.
What if I need more help?
College faculty and staff have graciously offered to donate their time in support of our new Grant Mentoring & Peer Review Program. Please
