Welcome to student teaching the culmination of your teacher preparation program of study! The final bridge between educational theory and professional practice, student teaching provides the opportunity to reinforce the knowledge and skills necessary to begin your career as a professional educator, and within the context of student teaching, you will accomplish the final transition from preparation to practice. To be successful in this transition, you must demonstrate knowledge, dedication, and enthusiasm for teaching and learning.
From this page, you can read and/or download the Community Service Handbook, the Student Teaching Handbook and the Teacher Education Handbook, link to your teacher preparation program to review departmental requirements for approval to student teach, and review requirements for the Preparing to Teach Portfolio and the Exit Portfolio. Feinstein School student teaching requirements due to the Office of School Partnerships and Field Placements and the deadline dates for submission may also be accessed.
From this page, you may also access The Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (RIDE) from which you can check certification requirements, download applications and information. Info Works is the RIDE link that will provide you with background information concerning the school district and school to which you have been assigned for student teaching. Student Teacher Meetings
Students are required to attend a mandatory Student Teacher meeting. Two meetings are held each semester. Attendance is required! Click here for more information.
