Dr. Pamental's College Experience
Brief Biography
After thirteen years in advertising in
New York, during which time I obtained an MBA from New York University,
I began my teaching career in 1976. I also began a doctoral program in the History
& Philosophy of Education. I taught one year at Boston College, five
years at Merrimac College in Andover, MA, four years at Susquehanna University
in Selingsgrove, PA, and since 1985 I've been at Rhode Island College.
I finished my Ph.D. with a dissertation on the course in Business Ethics
and the course in Business, Government & Society. It was published as
a book in 1986. Prior to that time I had been taching courses in Marketing,
but on receiving the doctorate I began to teach the BGS course and switched
to Management, occasionnally helping out in the Marketing area when
needed.
Four years later I won a fellowship to attend the Japan Studies Institute
at San Diego University, a four-week intensive immersion in the history,
culture, and economy of Japan. Since then, I have been studying the Japanese
language (off and on, I must confess) and have continued to study Japanese
business practices, culture and history. I visited Japan for six weeks in
the Summer of 1993 and still correspond with several of the people I met
while there. I also wrote a book about it, Daijoobu: Learning from
the Japanese. It's been accepted for publication by University Press of
America.
I now teach international business and management courses in the department,
and courses on Japan in the General Education program.
Outside the college, I enjoy birding, music (I play folk guitar), gardening,
eating (all cuisines), going to museums. and making things out of wood.(See my personal page.)
