Renowned for its impressive size and its lovely aroma, the noble fir is native to the Northwestern United States. Because of its unusually high strength-to-weight ratio, the wood of this species has traditionally been used in the construction of ladders and airplanes. As our campusís tallest tree displays its impressive skyward reach beside the Alumni House, we are reminded of the collective impact of the Collegeís 44,000 graduates since 1854. Over the past 150 years, their efforts and influence have touched every nook and cranny of Rhode Island, as well as branching throughout the nation and the globe.
