Materials
needed for the week: a world map for your classroom, small dot stickers and 1
copy of the Providence Journal for each student (students do not all have to
have the same issue)

MONDAY
MISSION: EXPLORE Go to www.geographyawarenessweek.com and with your class try one of
the MISSIONS you will find there!
TUESDAY
WHERE
IN THE WORLD? Chose worksheets volume 1, 2 or 3
(one=grades 3-4), (two=grades 4-6) and (three=grades 5-8)
Get your students using clues to find landmarks all over the
world. Answer Key for worksheets
WEDNESDAY
GLOBALLY
CLOTHED Post the world map in your
classroom. Have students work in pairs and read all the labels on each other’s
clothes to find out where each item was made. Students then mark these locations
on the map with the dot stickers. Discuss how the clothes they are wearing in
Rhode Island might have traveled here from their point of origin.
THURSDAY
COLORFUL
RHODY Print out a Rhode Island Red
Hen and a Purple Violet or a Red Maple Tree for your students to color.

MY
COMMUNITIES Have your students use
their copies of the Pro Jo to work on any or all of the following: “My Hometown”,
“My State”, “My Nation”, “My World” and “My Community”.
