Rhode Map - Charting the mission of the Rhode Island Geography Education Alliance
LEADERSHIP TRANSITION AT RIGEA
20 November 2011
Dear Friends of Geography and RIGEA Members,
Over the past two years, RIGEA has made a commitment and
progress to develop and grow as an organization with the guidance and support
of the RIGEA Advisory Board, Leadership Team, and NEGEN. Through NEGEN, New England Geography
Education Network, RIGEA forged a regional partnership with the five New
England geography alliances. These
changes are in large part attributed to the energy and vision of those involved
in the strategic planning with the support of Bob Dulli and Daniel Edelson and
many other individuals at National Geographic.
I plan to leave my position as Coordinator at the end of
December. My departure poses a wonderful
opportunity during the strategic planning process to address the organization’s
vision, mission, and infrastructure and allows NG to continue to examine how
Rhode Island will design and implement its future goals. RIGEA’s Board along with several other RIGEA
members are working with Karen Gibbs, NG Liaison, to create a successful
transition so RIGEA can realize its mission to develop geography literacy in
Rhode Island.
As these conversations develop, your thoughtful
participation is welcome. Please feel
free to send your suggestions and comments to rigea@ric.edu
about how RIGEA can support teaching and learning in your classroom in the
future.
Thank you so much for your participation and support.
Sincerely,
Maria Lawrence, RIGEA Coordinator
