The Changing the Culture Seminar, presented over a 4-day period, was developed to change the existing culture of beliefs and attitudes regarding persons with disabilities within the RI higher education community. The curriculum for the CTC Seminar provides information and experiences to raise the awareness of all participants regarding the needs and capabilities of students with disabilities; as well as a review of policies and resources on campus and the community. Seminar participants become Disability Resource Mentors for their colleagues.

A Disability Resource Mentor (DMR) is a person who is a member of an academic department or administrative unit within the college who has completed the CTC Seminar and is qualified to become a resource or liaison to the unit regarding disability issues. DMRs are asked to facilitate regular discussions with their colleagues regarding disability issues. Such discussions could include: formal training by the CTC leadership, informal one-on-one information sharing, problem solving, brief presentation at departmental meetings, etc. DMRs can communicate and provide ongoing support to one another via this website and through membership on a listserv.

The CTC seminar schedule for the 2005/2006 academic year at Rhode Island College has not yet been set. Please check back after October 15 for further updates. Thanks.
