The RIDE office of Teacher Certification has created the "I Plan" (Individual Professional Development Plan) as a mechanism for either attaining certification or for the continuing professional development that is required to attain a "Professional Certificate" or to have that certificate renewed every five years. "I Plans" are reviewed by a Board of experts who apply a set of standards and a rubric to determine if the plan is acceptable. The "I Plan" will be used as one of the mechanisms for assisting the non-traditional teacher candidates to achieve certification.
