The RIDE Office of Teacher Certification developed these standards collaboratively
with Institutions of Higher Education, teacher unions, local school districts personnel, and others.
These standards are now being used as the basis for accrediting teacher preparation programs.
These standards provide the basis for the continuing efforts to reform teacher preparation and to include
coursework and practicum experiences pertinent to educating children with disabilities in the general
curriculum.
