BHDDH is assisting with vaccine planning for individuals with I/DD living with family or living independently. Currently the Department of Health plans to make vaccines available for these individuals only (not staff and family at this time). Vaccine planning and distribution for those living in congregate care and Shared Living is currently underway.
If you live independently or with family, your BHDDH social caseworker will be reaching out to you to find out if you are interested in receiving the vaccine. If you would like to proactively respond, you can call the DD Main number at 401-462-3421 and leave your full name, contact number and whether or not you are interested in receiving the vaccine.
Once the vaccination clinics are set up, you will need to register and a link to the registration portal will be provided.
Letter to Governor Raimondo from the Developmental Disabilities Network in RI (January 13, 2021)
Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Resources
The CDC understand that some people may be concerned about getting vaccinated now that COVID-19 vaccines are available in the United States. While more COVID-19 vaccines are being developed as quickly as possible, routine processes and procedures remain in place to ensure the safety of any vaccine that is authorized or approved for use. Safety is a top priority, and there are many reasons to get vaccinated.
Easy to Read COVID-19 Safety materials primarily developed for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and others who read or listen with understanding below third-grade level.
