Mitzie Johnson has a B.S. from the University of Rhode Island in the Field of Human Development and Family Studies, with special concentrations in the Thanatology, African American Studies/ Africana Studies and Family Life Education.
As a Life Choices Mentor, Mitzie assists individuals to gain personal control and self-direct their lives through the utilization of Person-Centered Planning and a "Self Help Plan," which consist of strategies such as natural supports, community resources, and formalized supports to achieve self-identified family goals. Mitzie is experienced at coaching parents in the areas of meaningful employment, low literacy challenges, practical/ critical thinking, resolving multiple life stressors, conflict resolution, and community membership. As well as assisting family members to access service coordination, personal and family medical care, dental care, mental health services, continuing education, special education and related services, basic parenting skills, parent education classes, housing security, household management, financial literacy, reading/understanding forms, and transportation.
