Description: This is a two to three week sixth grade unit based on "The Mission of Lewis and Clark", and presented from the perspective of some of the important and diverse people on the expedition. Some of those chosen for the mission (such as Lewis) were handpicked by President Thomas Jefferson. Others fell into the expedition by fate or luck. The students will become historians and will put themselves "into the minds" of the people on the expeditions. They will examine what kind of a person would undertake such an adventure, what are the unique characteristics of each member of the expedition, and will relate their findings to the unit's overarching question.
The overarching question of this unit of study is:
"How has conflict and cooperation shaped the human history?"
