Site-Based
Lesson Study
September-November 2005
While
students investigate science ideas, teachers from the school team
inquire about students' thinking and learning. During the fall,
the school team and an institute faculty work together to improve
the use of scientists' notebooks at the school site. School teams
use a structured process that begins with collaborative planning
of a lesson during the summer institute. One teacher conducts
the planned lesson while others observe how and what students
learn. After teaching the lesson, the team sits together to reflect
on student learning and revise the lesson for teaching by a second
team member. Cost of substitutes for school team members during
fall lesson study process is a district/school expense.
SLIP
Institute Follow-up
November 28, 2005-4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.
The
15 school teams reconvene with the institute faculty and share
their experience on implementing lesson study techniques and discuss
how they have used scientists' notebooks. This time is for reflection
and is an enjoyable way to learn about other school teams' experience.
Refreshments provided. Registration information will be mailed
during the fall.
