Jesus Ortega, B.S. Accounting ’04 and MPAc ’06, has been awarded the Silver Medal for achieving the 2nd highest score of all candidates who took the CPA exam in Rhode Island during 2007. Jesus, the recipient of both an undergraduate and graduate degree from RIC’s Accounting Program, is currently a domestic tax specialist for Hasbro, Inc.
Each year, several hundred candidates sit for this exam in Rhode Island, and, on a national basis, only about 1 out of 5 candidates even pass all 4 parts during any given year.
Vincent Lai, an accounting major from Providence, was awarded a $2,000 Carl W. Christiansen scholarship by the RI Society of CPAs. Vincent has a 4.0 GPA and is a Human Resources Sergeant in the US Army Reserve. He was a summer intern at the state controller’s office and has worked at RI hospital during his academic career. The scholarship will be presented to Vincent at the Society’s annual dinner meeting on April 29, 2008.
