Academic BackgroundJulie Urda received her Ph. D. in Management concentrating in Organizational Behavior in 2006 from INSEAD, an international business school in Fontainebleau, France. She also earned a B.A. in psychology from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Boston University. Dr. Urda came to Rhode Island College (RIC) in 2007 after spending a year as Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology at Brown University. She teaches Foundations of Management, Organizational Behavior, Organizational Theory and Design, and Business, Government, and Society. During the 2010-2011 academic year, she was an active member of the General Education Task Force (GETF) at RIC, which developed a new general education program for the College. While her dissertation concerns how social goals and emotions influence behavior and motivation, the experience on the GETF redirected her research interests to topics in management education. Dr. Urda chairs the Honors Program in the Management and Marketing department at RIC and is an active member of several other RIC and School of Management committees. She has been First-Year Seminar Coordinator since August 2015.
