| What is Live@EDU? |
Live@edu is a group of online services which extend and replace our existing campus student email service. On March 21, 2011 Rhode Island College joins hundreds of schools who partner with Microsoft Corporation to host student email, collaborative applications, and online storage. RIC's site is called Live@RIC. Live@RIC moves application software from your computer to a student-centered online environment. Applications such as Outlook Web Access, Office Web Apps, including Microsoft One-Note, Messenger with Video Chat are at available anytime, anywhere you have an Internet connection. With 7 GB of online storage, you can easily access your files, photos, calendar and contacts by connecting to the Internet and logging into Live@RIC.
You get an updated version of your familiar web mail, Outlook Web Access 2007, a 10 GB mailbox (that is 100 times bigger than your old mailbox) and a 7 GB Sky Drive. You will also be able to access all of the features found in Microsoft's LIVE network. As Microsoft adds new features to the Live environment, you will gain valuable experience using Microsoft's next generation of enterprise software.
Your new Live@RIC email address is your Windows Live ID. A Windows Live ID lets you access all of the features of Microsoft's LIVE network. This includes Windows Live, Office Live, Xbox Live, Zune, and Bing. You can connect many other services, like Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, Hulu, Youtube, and many others to your ID. Your Live ID helps you integrate all of these services into your Live@RIC account.
Not yet. For each of the LIVE services other than Windows Live, you need to go to that service's website and sign up/in with your Live@EDU ID and password.
For example, every RIC student does not suddenly have an Xbox Live account. However, if you sign into Xbox Live using your Live@RIC ID and password, Xbox Live will make you an Xbox account and copy over all of your information such as your name, interests, etc. from your Live@EDU profile. Think of this as "activating" your Live@RIC ID on each service.
| What is a SkyDrive |
Each RIC student will receive a SkyDrive as a part of their Live@RIC account. A SkyDrive is a space on the internet where you can store files and be able to access them from anywhere. Files that you save to your SkyDrive are not saved on your computer, but on your Live@EDU account on the Internet. For more information on the SkyDrive, go to the FAQ page.
