President’s Fund for Excellence
A gift to this unrestricted fund allows the president to meet the most critical needs and to take advantage of opportunities as they become available to the college.
The Annual Fund provides the Rhode Island College Alumni Association with resources that enable the board to support the college, its students and its faculty. Gifts to the Annual Fund sustain alumni programming, underwrite faculty research, and, above all, support student scholarships.
Rhode Island College offers a wide variety of liberal arts, science, and professional programs. The dedicated faculty is deeply invested in helping students achieve the ideals of higher education. RIC graduates enrich our state and region with their knowledge, devotion to excellence, and commitment to their chosen professions. Faculty of Arts and Sciences
Faculty of Arts and Sciences is a community of scholars that prides itself on academic excellence, diversity and service. The mission of the Faculty is to cultivate intellectual growth and provide students with the knowledge and skills to live in a globally interdependent world. The disciplines represented include traditional liberal arts areas, performing arts, mathematics, social sciences and the physical sciences, among others. The curricula and pedagogy address the needs of a highly diverse student body.
Feinstein School of Education and Human Development
Feinstein School of Education and Human Development (FSEHD) prepares education and human service professionals to promote the learning and development of students. Building on extensive field experiences, the school develops reflective practitioners who model lifelong learning, technological competence, and collaboration. The FSEHD is committed to facilitating excellence through equity, diversity, and social advocacy.
School of Business
School of Business (SOM) is a fully accredited division with six undergraduate majors as well as a master’s program in Professional Accountancy. The programs are grounded in a liberal arts education with a broad business foundation. Practical in nature, courses emphasize the application of theory. The understanding and use of technology is integrated throughout the curriculum. Special attention is given to the development of communication and team skills, and the cultivation of ethical and global perspectives.
School of Nursing
School of Nursing (SON) at Rhode Island College has the largest baccalaureate nursing program in the state. Using new technologies in concert with humane and established practices, the School of Nursing offers wide-ranging opportunities for practical, technologically innovative, and ethical learning. The program partners with all the major health care agencies in the state to offer clinical education. Nursing students enjoy a cooperative, collegial learning environment under the direction of a stellar nursing faculty committed to fostering the personal and intellectual growth of all students.
School of Social Work
School of Social Work prepares undergraduate and MSW students for practice in the community, in public social services, and in social agencies. The school offers knowledge-based and value-informed education concerned with improving social conditions and individual well-being. Its programs prepare practitioners to work with oppressed groups, to alleviate injustice, discrimination and poverty, and to create social policies and resources that meet basic human needs and enhance the quality of life.
James P. Adams Library
James P. Adams Library provides students and faculty with the information, recorded knowledge and services necessary to support and improve instruction and learning at Rhode Island College. The library supports student scholarship as well as faculty research. It upholds the intellectual freedom of its users with collection that manifests a diversity of views while ensuring the confidentiality of patron transactions. In addition, the library serves the academic and scholarly communities of the state, the region, the nation, and the world through cooperative arrangements that provide reciprocal benefits to the College.
Anchor Club is the organized fund-raising association for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, Intramurals and Recreation at Rhode Island College. The annual financial support received from alumni and friends provides the resources to enhance support services, training facilities, and the quality of the athletic experience, as well as academic success for Rhode Island College's student-athletes.
Gifts toward capital projects help the College to create and maintain an exceptional learning community.
Endowment funds are gifts from donors with the restriction that the principal not be expended but rather be invested for income-producing purposes. Income from endowments can be either restricted or unrestricted, based on donor direction. A portion of the income is available to be expended for the agreed upon purpose and a portion may be reinvested to maintain purchasing power. Funds designated by the Board to function as endowments may be totally expended at any time at the discretion of the Board.
Approximately 80 percent of the Foundation's assets are held in endowment. These endowment funds are held in perpetuity to support scholarships and programs of the College, many created in honor of or in memory of families and individuals. Additional funds held by the Foundation are designated to be expended in support of College related priorities and programs.
Rhode Island College (RIC) is eager to engage in partnerships with alumni, reunion classes, friends, and the business community. Performing Arts Series
Performing Arts Series welcomes internationally known artists and troupes to our beautiful campus venues. For almost half a century, these performances have offered a fascinating and moving window on the world, expanding the range of cultural experience for students and the public alike.
Shinn Study Abroad Fund
Ridgway F. Shinn, Jr. Study Abroad Fund provides income to support undergraduate students in planned study outside the United States. Students may study abroad for a semester, year, summer, or during the short January term. The choice of program and country depends upon the interests of the individual student. Foreign study experiences augment the campus curriculum in valuable ways, broadening outlooks and renewing connections to the world.
Rhode Island College Upward Bound Program is designed to instill in low-income, potential first-generation college students the skills and motivation to complete high school and to enter and graduate from college. The program enhances the intellectual, emotional, character and motivational development of each participant by offering rigorous academic instruction, counseling, support services, and an environment that recognizes individual differences and academic potential.
Henry Barnard Laboratory School of Rhode Island College
The mission of
Henry Barnard Laboratory School is to provide an excellent educational opportunity for its students while simultaneously functioning as a resource and learning center for Rhode Island College education students. Henry Barnard School encourages innovative educational practices and research, and shares these results with the educational community. The school celebrates cultural diversity and seeks to develop in its students a readiness to participate in the world community.
