Competencies

IMPORTANT: The skills required are reviewed each semester to keep pace with new developments in educational technology. Students are advised to watch for revisions, which will be announced at the outset of each semester. This information is available in the Department of Educational Studies, HBS 218 or HBS 222.

Word Processing Format: set bolding, italics, underline, change font size, justification; Set tabs: left, center, right, decimal; Insert a table, add text to table cells, format selected cells, add, delete rows and columns; Cut, copy, paste text; Spell check, format and insert images; drawing tools MS Word
Spreadsheet Define labels, values, formulas and operators; create and format a worksheet; compile and enter formulas; convert worksheet data into a chart/graph; use absolute and relative values in a formula; demonstrate use of functions MS Excel
Copyright and Ethics Determine whether or not specific examples of classroom copying are violations of US copyright law; identify examples of classroom copying which fall within the Fair Use Doctrine; apply the copyright law and Fair Use Doctrine to information in a variety of formats (e.g. textbook, videotape, audiotape, computer software, etc.)  
World Wide Web Using IE or Netscape (a) go to a Web site for which you will be given the URL; (b) identify designated features of that site to indicate you viewed the site. These might include information resources on the site, multimedia components of the site, links to other sites, and any other identifying features of the specific site; (c) search for and identify (by URL) a site which has information on a designated topic in education; (d) list identifying features of that site.
