Word Processing
In this exercise you will create a student worksheet about the Gettysburg
Address. You will use the following skills:
- Formatting font
- Formatting paragraphs
- Cutting and pasting
- Using the drawing tools
- Creating and formatting tables
- Inserting pictures
- Creating a header
- Setting margins
- Spell checking
Clicking on each instruction will take you to a topic to help you to
complete the task.
Step 1
Open a blank Word document. Copy and paste the following material into it.
Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new
nation, conceived in liberity and dedicated to the proposition that all men are
created equal.
Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation or any
nation so conceived and so dedicated can long endure. We are met on a great
battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a
final resting-place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might
live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.
But in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate, we cannot consecrate, we cannot
hallow this ground. The brave men, living and dead who struggled here have
consecrated it far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little
note nor longe remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did
here. It is for us the living rather to be dedicated here to the unfinished work
which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us
to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us--that from these
honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the
last full mesure of devotion--that we here highly resolve that these dead shall
not have died in vain, that this nation under God shall have a new birth of
freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall

Step 2
Create the document according to the following specifications. When you are
finished save your file as WPAnswer
- Cut Gettysburg Address from the bottom of the text and paste it above the
text to be used as the title
- Title: Centered, formatted as Comic Sans, 18 pt., Bold
- Margins: Left and right = 0.75" Top and bottom = 0.75"
- Paragraphs (not the numbered questions) should
- Have A 0.5" first line indent
- Have a 6 pt. spacing after each paragraph
- Be formatted to Comic Sans 10 pt. font.
- Add a 6 pt. spacing before the first paragraph.
- Italicize the words: of the people, by the people, for the people
- Numbered questions should have 1.5-line spacing. Format as Comic Sans 11 pt.
- Download the picture of Abraham Lincoln that is at the bottom of the page to your computer.
- Insert the picture "abrahaml.gif" between the title and text and left align.
- Using the drawing tools, draw a 1"x 2" banner to the right of the picture. Fill
with yellow color. Rotate 180¡. Right align.
- Create a textbox on the banner that says: November 19, 1863. Center the words.
- Insert a 3 column, 2 row table after the questions. Format so only the outside
border appears.
- Enter the following vocabulary words in the table, one per cell: Gettysburg,
democracy, eighty-seven, battlefield, address, holy.
- A place for students to put their name and the date must be in a header.
- Format the directions to be Comic Sans 11 pt. bold.
- Perform a Spell Check and correct all spelling errors. Ignore all grammar errors.
