FREE WEB-BASED RESOURCES WHITE PAPERS AND LINKS

Note: At this time the college does not support these free e-learning resources. There are faculty members who are experimenting with these and others and we hope you take the opportunity to test some of them as well. We also like you to be aware that spyware could travel with some freeware, so its very important that you have the appropriate security software running on your machine.

1. Teacher Domain

http://www.teachersdomain.org/tdhome.html

Teachers' Domain is an online educational service with two related components -- resource collections and professional development courses -- that help teachers facilitate student learning and advance their own teaching skills. Teachers' Domain resource collections constitute an extensive digital library of multimedia resources for K-12 teachers and students. All resources and lesson plans are correlated to national and state standards.  Teachers' Domain give K-12 teachers new ways to inspire students, broaden content knowledge, and integrate technology into their classrooms using videos of exemplary practice and rich media resources from Nova and other PBS programming.

Technical Requirements: Teachers' Domain resources include digital video segments and other large files. For this reason, viewing resources works best if you have a broadband (T1, cable modem, DSL) connection to the Internet. Teachers' Domain works with Firefox 1.5 or newer, Internet Explorer 6 or newer and Safari 1.3 or newer. A G3 (Macintosh) or Pentium 2 (PC) processor is the minimal hardware required. Although not necessary, teachers may find it useful to use a projector connected to a computer for classroom presentation. Here are the plug-ins you'll need to get the most out of this site (click links to download):Shockwave and Flash, QuickTime, Acrobat Reader, RealPlayer (optional)
