SUMMER BLACKBOARD TRAINING

Basics Boot Camp - Using Blackboard to Support Your Online Courses

Instructors: USS and FCTL staff

User Support Services (USS) and the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (FCTL) will offer one session of the "Basics Boot Camp" this summer.

Monday, August 24th 9am-3pm Craig-Lee 131

The workshop will consist of quick lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on sessions to begin building your course.
The Basic workshop provides an introduction to using Blackboard for face-to-face and hybrid courses. The following topics will be covered:

  • Course design methods based upon your teaching strategies
  • Blackboard user interface for you and for students
  • Online course design that is consistent with your syllabus
  • Organizing, building, and managing course content
  • Uploading and using video content
  • Communicating with students

Register: Email ittraining@ric.edu. Include your name, department, which day you want to attend and whether or not you need to borrow a laptop. We will confirm your registration.

Prior to the workshop: Request that Blackboard be activated for your course. Allow at least two days for Information Services to process your request. Instructions can be found here: how to request a course for blackboard.

Bring: A paper and electronic copy of your syllabus and 2-3 documents (in electronic form) that you want to use in your course.

Advanced Boot Camp - Using Blackboard to Support Your Online Courses

Instructors: USS and FCTL staff

User Support Services (USS) and the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (FCTL) will offer one session of the "Advanced Boot Camp" this summer.

Tuesday, August 25th 9am-3:30pm Craig-Lee 131

This workshop consists of three 90-minute learning modules. Each module will provide a demonstration of a Blackboard feature and then approximately 30 minutes of hands-on time. You can choose to attend all or some of the learning modules, depending upon your needs. The schedule and topics are as follows:

Note: It is recommended that you have some experience with Blackboard or have taken the Basics Boot Camp workshop.

Register: Email ittraining@ric.edu. Include your name, department, which day and which modules you want to attend, and whether or not you need to borrow a laptop. We will confirm your registration.

User Support Services (USS) and the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (FCTL) will offer one-on-one sessions on course design and Blackboard course implementation. These one-hour sessions are by appointment only. (Note: we offer some late afternoon/early evening sessions.) The dates and time slots are:

Online course design that is consistent with your syllabus

  • Uploading and using video content
  • Using Discussions
  • Using journals and blogs
  • Creating assignments
  • Developing rubrics
  • Giving students feedback
  • Creating tests and using test pools
  • Creating surveys
  • Using the Grade Center
