Basics Boot Camp - Using Blackboard to Support Your Courses

User Support Services (USS) and the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (FCTL) will offer two sessions of the "Basics Boot Camp" this August.

Monday, August 20th 4:30pm-7:00pm Horace Mann 140

By the end of this workshop, faculty will:

  • Build a basic menu system in Blackboard.
  • Online course design that is consistent with your syllabus.
  • Organizing, building, and managing course content.
  • Upload a syllabus.
  • Uploading and using video content.
  • Add course content.
  • Add email functionality within the course.
  • Take attendance in Blackboard.

Register: Email ittraining@ric.edu. Include your name, department and which day you want to attend. We will confirm your registration.

Prior to the workshop: Request that Blackboard be activated for your course. Allow at least two days for Information Services to process your request. Instructions can be found here: how to request a course for blackboard.

Bring: A paper and electronic copy of your syllabus and 2-3 documents (in electronic form) that you want to use in your course.

Blackboard Fall 2018 Help Sessions

User Support Services (USS) and the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (FCTL) will offer one-on-one sessions on course design and Blackboard course implementation. These one-hour sessions are by appointment only on Thursday, August 23rd between 1:00pm-5:00pm in Horace Mann 140. If can't make it on Thursday, but you still need help with Blackboard, please contact the Help Desk at 456-8803 to request a Blackboard support.

These Help Sessions are intended to help faculty with specific topic areas, such as:

  • Creating assignments and giving students feedback
  • Creating tests, using test pools, and Respondus
  • Developing rubrics
  • How to migrate your previous course into your Fall 2016 course
  • Online course design that is consistent with your syllabus
  • Organizing, building, and managing course content
  • Uploading and using video content
  • Using discussions

User Support Services (USS) will offer two Blackboard Student Workshop sessions this January.

  • Wednesday, August 29th 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM Horace Mann 140
  • Wednesday, September 5th 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM Horace Mann 140

By the end of this workshop, students will know:

  • How to log into your Blackboard account
  • How to navigate through the Blackboard environment
  • How to submit work to an assignment
  • How to take an online Blackboard quiz/test
  • How to post to a discussion form, blog and journal
  • How to access grades that your professors are releasing to the students

If any of your students would like to attend one of these workshops, please have them  email ittraining@ric.edu and let us know which day they want to attend. We will confirm their registration.

Don't miss a class because of snow! Blackboard Collaborate Essentials (WEBINAR)

Recordings will be available for those that register but are unable to attend virtually.

This virtual workshop is designed to give participants a solid foundation, enabling them to successfully deliver live, interactive Collaborate sessions. Participants will learn about the key features and core functions of the Collaborate user interface. They will learn about session roles and how to effectively manage the communication tools, understand audio indicators, manage session and participant interaction, display the whiteboard and PowerPoint content, and record a session.

All e-classrooms and e-lab in the newly renovated Gaige Hall have the ultra-short-throw BrightLink 695Wi projector which is a touch-enabled interactive projector, Extron touch panel, document camera and more. Do you want to learn more about how to use the finger touch interactivity to engage and collaborate with your students? Are you looking be proficient in using the equipment in the Gaige rooms? Then this workshop is for you. In this workshop, you will learn how to:

  • How to select different sources, such as the PC and document camera, from the Extron panel?
  • How to change the in-room lighting?
  • How to project an image or object from the document camera to the projector?
  • How to use the Epson PC Free Annotation (Epson pen/finger touch interactivity)?
  • How to use the Whiteboard feature?
  • How to switch from the display source to the Epson interactive whiteboard?
  • How to save PC Free Annotations to your Flash drive?
