THTR 543: Dramatic Literature I
Representative plays from early times to the early
18th century are explored, including drama of Asia
and the Orient; classical Greece and Rome; Italian,
English, Spanish, and French Renaissance; and English
Jacobean and Restoration periods.
3 credit hours. Prerequisite: graduate status
or consent of department chair.
THTR 544: Dramatic Literature II
Representative playwrights and plays from the 18th
century to the present are explored, including the
drama of America, England, France, Germany, Scandinavia,
Russia, Eastern Europe, Africa, Latin America, Asia,
and the Orient.
3 credit hours. Prerequisite: graduate status
or consent of department chair.
THTR 590: Independent Study in Theatre
Scholarly research culminating in a thesis paper
is required. This course may be repeated once for
credit with a change in content.
3 credit hours. Prerequisite: graduate status
and consent of department chair and dean.
THTR 674: Performance
Focus is on techniques of body mechanics, relaxation
exercises, voicw production, articulation, singing,
dancing, acting and directing in relation to theatre
and media studies. This course may be repeated for
credit.

THTR 675: Theatre Engaging Communities
and Schools
Performance study continues with the possibility
of a semester placement in an approved conservatory
program —either within the continental United
States or abroad. This course may be repeated for
credit.
9 credit hours. Prerequisite: admission to the
M.F.A. program.
THTR 676: Performance and Social Change
Emphasis is on the social context of performance.
This course may be repeated for credit.

THTR 690: Independent Study in Theatre
Under the supervision of a faculty advisor, the
student prepares a performance manifesto as the
culmination of three years of M.F.A.study.

THTR 695: Final M.F.A. Project
Under the supervision of a faculty advisor,the student
presents a project as the culmination of three years
of M.F.A. study.

FILM 551: Media Culture
This course will analyze the simultaneous
rise of electronic media and the development of
postmodernism. Connections between critical theories
and media production will be explored. We will analyze
contemporary examples of new media in the context
of theories of postmodernism, as well as examine
some prophetic modernist texts that predate this
digital age. Students will read theory and fiction,
attend screenings, and write papers.
COMM 541: Media Theory
A theoretical foundation for the analysis of communications
media and its evolving technologies is provided.
Emerging discourse models frame the history, philosophy,
epistemology, and critical interpretation of electronic
media. Prerequisite: senior standing and the completion
of a miinimum of six communications courses; or
acceptance into the Master of Arts program iin art,
with a concentration in media studies; or consent
of instructor.
