RI PBIS
Rhode Island currently has 2 cohorts participating in PBIS. Cohort I consists of 16 schools who began training in
November 2005. Cohort 2 consists of 25 schools who began training in May 2006. Total we have 41 schools in 19 school districts
participating in the PBIS movement and philosophy. More specifically, this includes 34 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, 1 high school,
3 charter schools, 2 private schools, and 3 early childhood/daycare centers. A third cohort will begin in the Spring of 2007.
PBS effectiveness is supported by evidence-based, research validated practices. PBIS enhances the capacity of schools, families,
and communities and the environments in which teaching and learning occurs. It is our hope that PBIS is rolled out district-wide
over the next several years. District level support and implementation are critical features of long-term effectiveness and success.
This approach allows common vision, language, and experience to be established; In addition, district level support provides a supportive context
for implementation at the local level.
