The Rhode Island Department of Human Services is the lead agency for the Early Intervention system is RI.
They have contracted with the Sherlock Center to provide training and technical assistance to DHS staff, to families,
to EI providers, and to community practitioners.
Objectives:
Plan for the recruitment and retention of qualified EI staff.
Provide training to all EI providers, with a focus on: IDEA, family-centered practice, community-based services and supports, evaluation and assessment, natural environments and natural
learning opportunities, the IFSP process, transition from Early Intervention, procedural safeguards, and access to federal, state, and
community resources.
Facilitate EI Supervisors' Seminars.
Develop system-wide connections for all families of vulnerable young children and for providers of services to families who have children with
special healthcare needs.
Ensure a sustainable, high quality Transition process from EI for all families.
Act as liaison to the RI Department of Education for early childhood issues.
Engage in meaningful public awareness activities.
