Sherlock Center Resources For Providers
Below are highlights of projects and resources that may be of assistance to providers
and the individuals they serve. Click the links for additional information available
on this site.
PROJECTS & SERVICES
360 Local Supportive Parenting Project
This initiative provides a variety of support services to parents self identified as having learning
difficulties and/or cognitive challenges. Families must be involved in the CASSP Program and be
currently raising a child or children.
Early Intervention Training and Technical Assistance
The Rhode Island Department of Human Services is the lead agency for the Early
Intervention system in RI.
They have contracted with the Paul V. Sherlock Center on Disabilities to provide training and
technical assistance to DHS staff, to families, to EI providers and to community practitioners.
Employment Supports
The Sherlock Center collaborates with local government agencies such as the Office of Rehabilitation Services / DHS,
Division of Developmental Disabilities, MHRH, and netWORKri to promote systems change and to
increase the capacity of Rhode Island employment providers. The Sherlock Center offers a
comprehensive training program and a variety of workshops for direct support professionals,
managers, job developers, and educators supporting individuals with disabilities to become
meaningfully employed. Individualized technical assistance is also available by request.
Family Support 360 Transition Project
This initiative provides assistance to transition age students (age 14 – 21) with
significant disabilities and their families. Staff help families plan an effective
transition for the young person from high school to a meaningful adult life with
appropriate supports.
Family to Family of RI
Family to Family of Rhode Island is a network created by families for families of
children and adults with special needs. The network offers opportunities for families
to connect with one another to share experiences, information, and/or support. A searchable
directory is available on the Internet and by calling (401) 727-4144, ext. 161. Membership
in the network is not required to use the Directory or to contact a participating family.
RI Services to Children and Youth with Dual Sensory
Impairments (DSI) Project
The DSI Project provides family and professional support, coordination of services,
information, technical assistance, and training to children with dual sensory impairments,
from birth through 22 years of age.
Sentinel Project
The Sentinel Project strives to bring together individuals with disabilities and their
family members to share their experiences with the Sherlock Center and one another.
Members have a voice in affecting the efforts of the Paul V. Sherlock Center on
Disabilities and the lives all of persons with disabilities in Rhode Island. The Sentinel
Project is the Consumer Advisory Committee for the Sherlock Center. New members are
welcome to join.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES
The Sherlock Center offers a variety of courses, workshops and conferences on
topics such as positive behavioral supports, employment of persons with disabilities,
transition, assistive technology, special education and inclusion. Join our

Supporting Meaningful Employment
A Person-Centered Approach to Career Planning, Job Development and Retention
This interactive, multi-day training is focused on best practices in person-centered
employment services. Topics include: Career Planning, Job Development, Job Coaching,
ORS SE Report Writing, Community and Web-based Resources, RI Labor Market Information,
Job Creation/Restructuring and SSA Work Incentives. The next course begins on September 14, 2007.
Introduction to Early Intervention
This introductory training covers topics critical to understanding the Early
Intervention community in Rhode Island, including the values embedded in the
EI system and the federal and state laws which serve as the foundation for EI services.
The training addresses core competencies related to the components of the EI system. The next
course begins on October 16, 2007.
RESOURCE LIBRARY
The Sherlock Center has a lending resource library with over 1500 books,
periodicals, software and videotapes. If you are in need of a specific resource,
let us know and we will do out best to provide assistance. Click the Resource Library link
