The Sherlock Center is part of a national network of programs known as University Centers for Excellence in Developmental
Disabilities (UCEDDs). The Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rhights Act of 2000 (the DD Act) requires each UCEDD to establish
a consumer advisory committee. Though not your typical committee, the Sentinel Project is the consumer advisory committee for the Sherlock Center.
WHAT WE DO…
The Sentinel Project strives to bring together individuals with disabilities and their
family members to share their experiences with the Sherlock Center and one another.
By sharing, members have a voice in affecting the efforts of the Paul V. Sherlock Center
on Disabilities and the lives all of persons with disabilities in Rhode Island.
A SENTINEL IS…
A Sentinel is an individual with a disability OR a family member of a person with a disability:
- READY to make a difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities, including his/her own.
- WILLING to share personal experiences.
- ABLE to commit eight hours per year to meaningful participation in project activities.
WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN…
The Sentinel Project gives individuals and families a chance to:
- Have your voice heard! What’s most important to you in regard to disability?
- Share and hear personal stories of those facing similar circumstances.
- Use the resources and expertise of the Sherlock Center and it’s staff. How can we help?
