14th Annual Diversity Week - Oct. 1-5
The Rhode Island College division of Community, Equity and Diversity and the Unity Center invite your participation in the
fourteenth annual Rhode Island College Diversity Week October 1st – 5th. The purpose of RIC’s Diversity Week is to provide shared learning opportunities designed to increase awareness, disseminate knowledge, and develop skills and perspectives that will strengthen the campus community, broaden our understanding of diversity and inclusiveness, and promote mutual respect. Diversity Week serves to highlight the equity and inclusion work that the college community is committed to all year round as evidenced by the Inclusive Excellence pillar of our strategic plan.
This year, Diversity Week features a
campus program (Thursday, October 4) with Judy Shepard, mother of Matthew Wayne Shepard, whose murder in 1998 prompted the country’s first federal hate crimes legislation and led to the establishment of the Matthew Shepard Foundation. The foundation’s longstanding mission is to erase hate by replacing it with understanding, compassion and acceptance.
