April Vacation Adventures

In an effort to assist student-parents during the K-12 April vacation week, the Office of Student Life, the Unity Center, Learning for Life, the Women’s Center, and the Student Parent Association collaborate to offer activities for the children of RIC students to attend while they are on campus, in class. The program is FREE and for school-aged children ages 5+ who are toilet-trained. The activities are offered 7:45am to 4pm in the Henry Barnard School. For more information, contact the Unity Center at (401) 456-8791.

For 2018 K-12 April vacation week (4/16-4/20), students can now register for their children to attend April Vacation Adventures. Complete the online registration form to sign up. See the program flyer for more details.

The Unity Center is a department of the division for Community, Equity, and Diversity (CED) at RIC. Its mission is to promote the accessibility of educational services and the opportunity for excellence to all students through collaborative programming among its student affiliates, faculty, staff and the wider community. The Center further seeks to enhance cultural awareness by providing safe and welcoming forums for exploring issues pertaining to diversity, equity and inclusion. The Center’s objectives are to:

  • Engage students in meaningful dialogue about their academic, social and personal experiences
  • Challenge the stereotypes of racism, sexism, homophobia, classism and other forms of oppression
  • Provide support services for students in underrepresented and/or protected classes.
  • Plan & develop multicultural programming for the campus community

The Unity Center is comprised of the leadership and activities of the Women’s Center, the LGBTQ Office, and the International Student Office. The Preparatory Enrollment Program has been welcomed into our space and will enhance our student support work while exposing more students to the programs and resources the Center offers. The Unity Center student lounge has been updated with new furnishings, there is a private meditation room, and an academic resource area has been added to foster student success. The Unity Center, and the entire CED team, collaborates with Student Community Government, the Dialogue on Diversity and the divisions of Student Success and Academic Affairs to promote diversity, equity and inclusive excellence campus-wide.
