Important Dates

Fall 2009

October 3 Fall semester classes begin.
Tutoring begins.
October 17, 24, 31 SAT Preparation Workshops (12:45pm – 3:00pm).
November Recruitment of new class of students.

General information sessions will be held in each target high school. Interested students enrolled in the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades should speak to their guidance counselors or call the Upward Bound office to obtain more information.
November 7 Seniors - SAT Reasoning Tests.
November 14 TOEFL Workshop for eligible Upward Bound seniors.
November 17/18

Overview of financial aid for college.
Seniors & their parents/guardians are required to attend.
Juniors & their parents/guardians are encouraged to attend.
November 21 Fall semester concludes.
Instructors review evaluations with students.
TOEFL Test (noon - 3:00pm) for students who participated in workshop.
December Workshops offered - topics to be communicated to students.
December 1 Progress reports disbursed to high school faculty who are teaching current UB students.
Week of December 14 Copies of students' fall academic evaluations and "Standards for Continuation and Graduation from the Program" will be mailed to parents/guardians.
December 15 Deadline for students to apply for admission.

Spring 2010

January 23 Spring Conference for Upward Bound students.
Juniors register for SAT Reasoning test scheduled for June 5.
January 26 - February 9 Interviews for eligible students and parents.
Information will be provided to students selected or not selected for interviews.
January 30 Spring semester classes begin for undergraduates.
Seniors attend Seminar Series - as scheduled during semester.
Week of February 15 Admissions decisions communicated to all applicants and parents interviewed.
February 13 Deadline for medical forms for Group I students planning to participate in summer 2010 component.
February 20 No Saturday classes
Week of February 22 Welcoming meetings will be held in each target school for accepted students.
February 27 New students report to RIC at 8:30am for teambuilding activities, standardized testing, campus tour, and lunch.
Parents report to RIC at 1:30 p.m. for Orientation. These sessions will be held in the auditorium of Gaige Hall
March 6 Newly-selected students begin Saturday classes
March 8 Summer 2010 Employment Opportunities Announced
Mid-March Progress reports on Upward Bound students requested from high school teachers
March 20 Group II Juniors register for the SATs that will be held on June 5.

Deadline for seniors to submit Upward Bound Scholarship applications.
April (TBA) Senior meeting & class photos
April 3 No classes
April 12 Deadline for sophomores and juniors to submit applications for summer internships
April 17 No classes
Deadline for submission of medical information for Group II students continuing into the summer component.
Deadline for submission of summer '10 t-shirt design
April Parent conferences scheduled (parents should call assigned counselor to schedule appointment)
April 23 Application deadline for summer 2010 employment
April/May Upward Bound Counselors meet with seniors and parents to review college acceptances
April/May SAT workshops for juniors
May (TBA) Upward Bound Scholarship Committee conducts interviews for semi-finalists
May 8 Spring Saturday Academy concludes. Spring Awards Ceremony and annual picnic.
Week of May 17 Copies of students' spring academic evaluations and "Standards for Continuation and Graduation from the Program" will be mailed to parents/guardians.
Early June (TBA) Class of '10 Graduation Ceremony
