Fall 2007

October 6 First Annual Fall Breakfast & Community Meeting
October 13 Fall semester classes begin
October 13, 20, 27 SAT workshops
October and November Recruitment of new class of students
General information sessions will be held in the six target high schools. Interested students enrolled in the 9th and 10th grades should speak to their guidance counselors or call the Upward Bound office to obtain more information.
November 3 No classes
November 17 & December 8 TOEFL workshops for eligible Upward Bound seniors
November 24 No classes
December 3 Progress reports disbursed to high school faculty who are teaching current UB students.
December 12 Deadline for students to apply for admission.
December 15 Fall semester concludes. Instructors review evaluations with students.
Institutional TOEFL Test administered.
Week of January 7 Copies of students' fall academic evaluations and "Standards for Continuation and Graduation from the Program" will be mailed to parents/guardians.

Spring 2008

January 26 Spring Conference for Upward Bound Students and Parents.
Group I juniors register for June SAT Reasoning test
January 23 - February 8 Interviews for eligible students and parents.
Information will be provided to students selected or not selected for interviews.
February 2 Spring semester classes begin
Week of February 11 Admissions decisions will be communicated to all applicants and parents interviewed.
February 16 Deadline for medical forms for Group I students planning to participate in summer 2008 component
February 23 No Saturday classes
Week of February 25 Welcoming meetings will be held in each target school for accepted students.
March 1 New students report to RIC at 8:30am for standardized testing, campus tour, and lunch.
Parents report to RIC at 1:30 p.m. for Orientation. These sessions will be held in the auditorium of Gaige Hall
March 8 Newly-selected students begin Saturday classes
March 15 Juniors register for the SATs that will be held on June 3rd Deadline for seniors to submit Upward Bound Scholarship applications
March 17 Summer 2007 Employment Opportunities Announced
Mid-March Progress reports on Upward Bound students requested from high school teachers
March 22 No classes
April 12 Deadline for submission of medical information for Group II students continuing into the summer component.
Deadline for submission of summer '08 t-shirt design Senior meeting & class photos
April Parent conferences scheduled (parents should call assigned counselor to schedule appointment)
April 19 No classes
April 22 Application deadline for summer 2008 employment
April 26 Deadline for sophomores and juniors to submit applications for summer internships
April/May Upward Bound Counselors meet with seniors and parents to review college acceptances
April/May SAT workshops for juniors
May 3 Upward Bound Scholarship Committee conducts interviews for semi-finalists
May 10 Spring Saturday Academy concludes. Spring Awards Ceremony and annual picnic.
Week of May 19 Copies of students' spring academic evaluations and "Standards for Continuation and Graduation from the Program" will be mailed to parents/guardians.
Month of June Upward Bound Commencement Exercises for Class of 2008 (TBA)
Early June Orientation Meetings for instructors and residential staff

June 19 Summer '08 students commute to campus for workshops and activities
June 22 Tentative start date Summer 2008 Academic/ Residential Component begins
July 4 No classes
Departure time on July 3 and July 6 return time will be announced.
Week of July 21 Tentative dates 3rd Annual International Day Family Picnic and One World Festival Fundraiser for Upward Bound Scholarship Fund
July 30 Awards Ceremony for Students and Families
August 1 Summer 2008 Concludes for Students
August 4 - 19 Internship placements for selected students
