User Support Services is opening workshops for faculty and adjunct faculty who would like to develop a Spring Semester course in our state-of-the-art Learning Management System, Blackboard 9. In two 2-hour sessions, faculty will use a standard course template to develop a Blackboard 9 course. The course template has been designed to take advantage of the native organization of Blackboard courses.
Blackboard uses a web interface which differs significantly from that of our previous LMS, WebCT. For this reason, before using Blackboard, faculty are asked to participate in a Blackboard Basics workshop. If you would like to use Blackboard 9 to manage your online learning environment during the Spring Semester, please refer below the Bb workshops’ descriptions and dates. Please email ittraining@ric.edu to sign up for workshops that best fit your schedule.
In this workshop you will learn how to log into Blackboard and download one of the RIC Bb temples. You will also learn how to use the Notification Dashboard, Edit Mode, and how to add, remove, and reorder items on the Course Menu. From there, you will learn how to add Announcements, Content Areas (which are like Organize Pages in WebCT 4.1), syllabus, lecture files, and more. You will also learn when you should use folders and when you should be using Learning Modules. Below are the dates this workshop is being offered. Please email ittraining@ric.edu to let us know which workshop you want to attend.
In this workshop, you will build off what you learned in the Blackboard 9 Day 1 workshop. You will be learning how to add new assignments and check students' submissions. You will also learn how to use and incorporate the different collaboration tools, such as Discussion Forums and Chats, in your Bb course. We will also be exploring how to place your students into groups and see what tools are available to individual group members to encourage collaboration among the group members. Below are the dates this workshop is being offered. Please email ittraining@ric.edu to let us know which workshop you want to attend.

You will learn how to submit your student papers to SafeAssign and generate the Originality Report to find out if it is original or plagiarized material. You will also learn how to create SafeAssignments where your students will be submitting their papers to SafeAssign. Below are the dates this workshop is being offered. WebDAV allows you to access your course folders in your Blackboard course using Windows File Manager. This capability makes it possible to drag and drop files to and from Blackboard without having to upload the files one at a time to the Content Collection in your Blackboard course. It also will allow you to drag from one course to another, making it easier to synchronize similar courses during the semester. You will learn how to access your course folder through WebDAV. You will also learn how to create folders and upload files to your Content Collection and create reusable objects such as assignments and content areas that can be reused in your courses. Below are the dates this workshop is being offered. Please email ittraining@ric.edu to let us know which workshop you want to attend.
