DNS:
The Domain Name System. A collection of servers located throughout the internet that translate human-readable names (such as www.ric.edu) into their numeric equivalents (such as 192.168.15.2).

Database:
A database is tool for storing a collection of information in a reasonably ordered and inter-related way.

Databases are used to contain a wide variety of information, including the definitions in this glossary.

Domain Name:
A Domain Name is a human-readable name assigned to a server on the internet. For example, the Rhode Island College website is hosted on a server named 'www.ric.edu'.

Domain names actually have several parts, and are themselves part of a longer name -- the URL -- which identifies individual resources available on a server.
