Health Services is committed to providing high quality, accessible and cost-effective services in a non-judgemental atmosphere that values diversity and respects individuality. 

Free In-House Services and Support for ALL RIC students, Including Part-Time and Graduate Students.

Call to make an appointment with one of our nurses, nurse practitioners or physician at (401) 456-8055. Same-day appointments and Tele-medicine appointments generally available. We provide primary care services to all students enrolled in Rhode Island College. We treat our students with a holistic approach – with an emphasis on prevention, risk reduction, and education to assist in making life-long health choices.  

If there is a medical emergency and our offices are closed, call 911 or Campus Police 401-456-8888. 

H.O.P.E. Line

Students in distress can call 401-456-4673 (HOPE) to confidentially speak with licensed clinician. This service is available to students 24 hours a day/7 days a week.

  • Symptomatic COVID, Strep throat, and Influenza Testing available
  • Urine and blood tests available 

Reproductive Health

  • GYN Care
  • Prescriptions for birth control and emergency contraception
  • Pregnancy Testing
  • Sexual Transmitted Disease (STI) screenings for all genders
  • Pre-exposure and Post-exposure Prevention for HIV (PEP and PrEP)

LGBTQ Health

  • Comprehensive multidisciplinary services including primary care, gynecological care and wellness services
  • Gender-affirming hormone therapy instruction and injection once prescribed by a specialty healthcare provider in the community

Laboratory Services

  • In-House Lab Services include pregnancy testing, blood sugars, rapid strep and COVID testing, and urine testing
  • East Side Lab Services: Phlebotomy Services offered, specimens sent to East Side Lab 

Substance Abuse Appointments 

  • Cessation assistance for nicotine products (JUUL, vaping, cigarettes) 
  • Education and treatment for substance and alcohol abuse
  • Staff provide education regarding opioid overdose and Naloxone administration 

Referrals 

On and Off Campus Resources (only if students sign written consent, may Health Services coordinate care with other professionals).

Immunizations

Health Services is part of the state-supplied vaccine program. Offers free vaccine to most students.

Services and Requirements

Current students registered for classes at Rhode Island College are eligible to utilize health services, whether you are full or part-time, residential or commuter, undergraduate or graduate.  

For those that recently graduated, you can continue to use health services until January 15 for December graduates and August 15 for May graduates. 

Additionally, those that are participating in an athletic program at Rhode Island College are eligible to complete the required medical clearance with Health Services.

  • Women’s Health – GYN exams, pap smears, birth control and pregnancy tests 
  • LGBTQ+ supportive care 
  • Lab services including on-site blood test, throat cultures, urine tests, STD testing and screenings for all genders 
  • Mental health referrals and collaborating with the Counseling Center 
  • Tobacco/Nicotine products cessation services  
  • Substance Use/Abuse apppointments and referrals 
  • Tuberculosis screening tests / Quantiferon testing
  • Referral and coordination for specific medical resources  
  • Orthopedic consultations 
  • ECG/Cardiac Services

Health Services is part of the state-supplied vaccine program. Offers free vaccines to most students. 

Rhode Island state law requires that all full-time students, graduate and undergraduate, provide documentation of:

  • One Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) vaccine
  • Two MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines
  • Three Hepatitis B vaccines 
  • Two Varicella vaccinations or proof of chicken pox disease
  • Meningitis vaccine 
  • COVID-19 vaccine

Tuberculosis (TB) screenings are required for all full-time students. 

Medical examinations (physicals) are required for the following students: athletes, nursing majors and residential students

Consistent with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control, state and local officials Rhode Island College has implemented a tool for faculty and staff to report students with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19.

Your Records

All requests for medical records must be made in writing by completing an Authorization for Release of Medical Information form. Hard copies or faxed copies of this form can be accepted.

Confidentiality

Medical records are considered strictly confidential under current state and federal laws with only rare exceptions. They are maintained separately from your academic records and are not released without your written consent.
