2022 Commencement Frequently Asked Questions

Saturday, May 14, 2022 at  10:00 a.m. at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center, Providence, RI. 

Doors will open at 8:15 a.m. 

Extra tickets will be distributed on Wednesday, May 4, at the Sapinsley Hall Box Office in the Nazarian Center from 12:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. (or until sold out). Tickets will be given out on a first come basis.

You can still purchase your regalia at the RIC Bookstore Monday-Wednesday between the hours of 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. and Thursday and Friday between the hours of 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m.

Please be there no later than 8:30 a.m. Enter on the West Exchange Street side at the lower level of the Dunkin’ Donut Center. Signs will be posted to direct you the correct location. The ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m.

Registration will be required for all in-person individual college ceremonies, and the number of guest tickets allotted will be based upon the number of RSVPs and the most current COVID-19 guidelines at that time. 

  • Vaccination recommended but not required
  • Masks optional. Masks will be available to graduates in attendance and worn based on personal choice. 
  • No physical distancing for seating
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, public health guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Rhode Island Department of Health, and RIC COVID-19 Task Force will be closely monitored and followed in the days leading up to the ceremonies. 
Please be advised that plans are subject to change.

We expect the ceremony to last approximately 3 hours. With a start time of 10:00 a.m., you can plan your post celebrations confidently any time after 1:00 p.m. Please allow time for traffic delays leaving the city. 

Parking is available in two garages adjacent to the Rhode Island Convention Center (RICC) and next to the Dunk. Both are located on West Exchange Street and parking is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Please visit Dunk Directions and Parking for additional information.  

Rhode Island College will host ONE ceremony that distributes diploma cases to ALL Ph.D.s, masters and baccalaureate candidates.

Graduates may obtain up to 6 tickets..

You may also email any inquiries to  Wheelchair accessible locations are in sections – 101, 104, 106, 110, 120, 124, and 126.  The center has asked that we continue to keep track of those needing services. 

Only those attending the Commencement ceremony will receive tickets.  Acceptance of tickets indicates you are registering to attend the ceremony. 

Please call the Records Office immediately. Please return your tickets to the Box Office located at the Nazarian Center, Sapinsley Hall.

Yes, you may.

Students may walk if they are within 9 credits of completing their graduation requirements in the summer. Students walking in the May ceremony but finishing in the summer will be August graduates.  Students registered for fall classes will walk in the 2023 ceremony.

First, apply to graduate on MyRIC. Your senior recorder/advisor in the Records office (Terry Riley-Wilcox for students with last names beginning with A-K and Amy Avila for students with last names beginning with L-Z) will contact you by mail and email if there are outstanding issues. 
You may also contact your senior recorder/advisor if you have any questions regarding your degree audit

 Yes, they are required for participation. 

Yes. If you received your diploma in August 2021 or January, 2022 you may walk at this Commencement.

Diploma size for all graduates is 8” X 10”.

Approximately 4 weeks after the graduation date.

 If you choose, you may pick up your diploma 4 weeks after the ceremony.

To be considered for graduation honors you must have a minimum of 54 attempted credits at Rhode Island College and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25. GPAs of 3.25-3.59 will graduate Cum Laude (white cord); 3.60-3.84 will graduate Magna Cum Laude (burgundy); and 3.85-4.0 will graduate Summa Cum Laude (gold cord). 

Honor cords will be distributed on Wednesday, May 11 in Gaige Hall Lobby between the hours of 9 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
