Kimberly Conway Dumpson currently serves as vice president for college advancement at Rhode Island College and interim executive director of the Rhode Island College Foundation. In this role, she leads a team of nearly 30 dedicated professionals in advancement services, alumni relations, communications and marketing, conferences and events, development and web communications. Under her leadership, the college launched its first multimedia advertising campaign in over a decade, increased engagement among the college’s more than 65,000 alumni and will complete its website overhaul in Spring 2021. She has motivated her team to embrace an innovative “what would happen if” mindset and inspired them serve as catalyst for increasing awareness, engagement, enrollment and philanthropy by creating memorable experiences and engaging content that amplifies the college’s brand promise on campus, online and through the community.
An attorney and certified fundraising executive (CFRE) with more than 16 years of progressive leadership in higher education fundraising, she has comprehensive campaign experience ($16M) and a proven track record in the solicitation of major and planned gifts. As a direct result of cultivation, solicitation, and/or supervision, she has raised more than $10M in philanthropic gifts of cash and assets to support student scholarships, academic program enhancements and special initiatives.
She is an effective communicator with an authentic and approachable leadership style, who creates strategic alliances and relationships across a broad spectrum of stakeholders. She is a passionate advocate devoted to issues of educational access and affordability for those from diverse racial, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
Never one to forget where she came from, she is a researcher of African-American history and a gifted storyteller with a passion for service.
A Maryland native, she earned her undergraduate degree from Towson State University, and a juris doctor degree from Ohio Northern University. She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Theta Psi Omega Chapter (Providence), the Greater Providence Rhode Island Chapter of The Links, Incorporated and the Providence Rotary Club. She is the mother of two children, Taylor and Jeffrey, II.
