
Community Health Worker

This training offers non-native English students the opportunity to study and learn English listening, speaking, grammar, writing, and reading contextualized for healthcare settings creating the pathway to acceptance into the Community Health Care worker training providing a comprehensive set of skills necessary to become a Certified Community Health Care worker in Rhode Island. The training addresses a variety of topics, including introduction to community health, behavioral health literacy (which builds on Intro to Behavioral Health provided in the Core Skills Training), community health literacy, culturally and linguistically appropriate responsiveness, safety/CPR, care coordination and system navigation, advocacy and action, working with families, ethics and professionalism, self-care, and telehealth. English literacy skills continue to be reinforced through embedded ESL instruction delivered in concert with skills instruction.
Overview:
Provide a comprehensive set of skills necessary to be a successful Community Health Worker in Rhode Island
Creating of foundation of ethics, confidentiality and trust within the Community Health Worker scope of practice
Provide participants with work experience (via internship) to practice Community Health Worker sills and competencies

Program Schedule:
- 8 week program
- 80 hours of internship
- 140 classroom hours
- Job search, mock interviews, continuing education workshops

Who is Eligible?
- Applicants 18 years or older, who have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Unemployed, underemployed, and dislocated workers
- Students who are motivated to learn new skills and secure employment
