Curriculum VitaView Dr. Urda's CV
Academic BackgroundJulie Urda received her Ph. D. in Management concentrating in Organizational Behavior in 2006 from INSEAD, an international business school in Fontainebleau, France. She also possesses a B.A. in psychology from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Boston University. Dr. Urda came to Rhode Island College in 2007 after spending a year as Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology at Brown University. Since 2007 she has taught Foundations of Management, Organization Management, and Business, Government, and Society. During the 2010-2011 academic year, she was an active member of the General Education Task Force (GETF) at RIC, which developed a new general education program for the College. While her dissertation concerns how social goals and emotions influence behavior and motivation, the experience on the GETF redirected her research interests to topics in management education. Currently, she is studying whether students perform better on evaluations when the evaluation type matches their preferences, and the benefits of implementing departmental honors programs at moderately selective schools. Dr. Urda chairs the Honors Program in the Management and Marketing department at RIC.
