The Rhode Island Writing Project has always believed that the best professional development is also personal development! With our partners at Thrive Outside, this session explores how gardening, native plants, and small-scale farming can empower teachers and students to make a meaningful impact in their communities.

In an ever-increasing dehumanizing profession, being a better teacher comes with being a happier human. We are leaning into that this summer with a range of professional development offerings, starting with our Summer Sampler: 3 half-days (9 am–12 pm) in July that you can take individually or as a package of three at a discount.

Cultivating Climate Literacy

Participants will examine the interconnectedness of ecological and social systems around native species and sustainable practices. This workshop offers practical strategies for cultivating both land and community through writing.

Cost and Professional Learning Units

  • $25 per day or $60 for all three days; PLUs provided
  • $10 per day for pre-service teachers; $30 for all three days
