Dr. Mikaila Mariel Lemonik Arthur

Professor of Sociology Mikaila Mariel Lemonik Arthur earned her B.A. in sociology from Mount Holyoke College and her M.A. and Ph.D. in sociology from New York University. She primarily teaches courses on social research, data analysis, and writing serving the Sociology and Justice Studies programs and has also taught courses on education, law and society, and disability studies. Professor Arthur has published four books, Social Data Analysis: Qualitative and Quantitative Approaches (with Roger Clark, 2023); Law and Justice Around the World (2020); Student Activism and Curricular Change in Higher Education (2011); and Social Change (Volume 7 in the Student Handbook to Sociology, 2012); as well as a number of research articles and policy briefs on issues related to higher education. She is an active participant in the American Sociological Association, directs the M.A. in Justice Studies, and serves as the President of the RIC/AFT Local 1819. When not working, Professor Arthur likes to spend her time reading speculative fiction, visiting local farmers' markets and vegetarian restaurants, and enjoying the ocean.
