Rape and Sexual Abuse: Perspectives of an Advocate and Therapist

Erin Cheschi, a survivor of rape, has been an outspoken advocate for victims of sexual violence and will be sharing her story.

Sexual violence affects men, women, and children throughout their lives and can be devastating for individuals, families, and communities. Erin Cheschi is a survivor of rape. She has been an outspoken advocate for victims of sexual violence by sharing her story. Erin will share her story to break the silence surrounding sexual violence. By sharing these stories, she hopes to prevent sexual violence through awareness. Feather Berkower is a licensed clinical social worker and holds a Master’s of Social Welfare from the University of California, Berkeley. She has been a leader in child sexual abuse prevention since 1985 and has educated nearly one-hundred fifty thousand schoolchildren, parents and youth professionals. Feather will discuss the following topics: Definition and prevalence of child sexual abuse; grooming process; age-appropriate sexual behavior; warning signs that a child, teen, or adult may be harming a child sexually; key concepts of body safety and body-safety rules; and signs and symptoms of sexually abused children.
