Our faculty at Rhode Island College can apply for a sabbatical to further their scholarship

Qualifications

Faculty members who have at least six years of continuous service, at the rank of Assistant Professor or above, may apply for a sabbatical for a period of one year (two academic semesters) at half pay or for a period of a half year (one semester).

Applicants and Proposals

Eligible faculty must submit, via application, a proposal detailing their intended sabbatical pursuits.

Categories of Proposals

  • scholarly research and writing or appropriate creative activity; projects for study at the post-doctoral level
  • projects that are related to the improvement of instruction or other professional skills
  • work on doctoral dissertations or comparable activity to complete a doctorate
  • projects to improve the individual's competence

View the RIC/AFT Contract Article 9.B for further details on eligibility, evaluation criteria, and approval process. Applications are typically due, to the appropriate Academic Dean or Library Director in early October of the proceeding academic year, who will make recommendations to the Provost and President.
