Graduate Assistant for the Rhode Island Writing Project

1 Part-time (10 hours a week)

Primary Purpose

Seeking a graduate assistant passionate about writing and education to join our team supporting K-16 teachers across all content areas.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support RI Writing Project presence on social media, at RIC, and with educational and community organizations
  • Collaborate with Site Director and Co-Directors on monthly newsletter
  • Engage in collaborative research projects related to education
  • Help build and support connections with teacher candidates, early career teachers, and veteran teachers (community events, writing workshops)
  • Support data collection and analysis of event participation
  • Assist in developing materials advertising and describing RIWP work and events
  • Participate in marketing and recruitment for RIWP events
  • Collaborate on coordinating monthly events
  • Design recruitment materials for the secondary English education program
  • Other duties as assigned by Site Director and Co-Directors

Qualifications

  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative, think critically, and work independently
  • Willingness to accept feedback and revise accordingly
  • Experience with the Google suite, Canva, and social media
  • Understanding of and willingness to learn skills related to research, quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis

Learning Opportunities

This position offers invaluable experience for anyone interested in teaching, educational leadership, and/or other work in schools. You'll develop real-world skills in digital communication by crafting monthly newsletters, managing social media presence, and creating promotional materials that reach hundreds of educators. Working alongside experienced teacher consultants and the RIWP leadership team, you'll engage in meaningful research projects, coordinate community events, and learn to navigate educational organizations while honing your professional writing abilities. This is an excellent opportunity to build connections within Rhode Island's teaching community, contribute to projects that directly support educators, and gain hands-on experience in program coordination, marketing, and educational research—all while strengthening your own identity as a writer and education professional.
