Graduate Assistant RINEC Simulation Lab/ RIC Simulation Lab

7 Part-time Positions (10 hours a week)

Primary Purpose

Assist with simulation learning at the RINEC Simulation Laboratories or Fogarty Life Science Simulation/Laboratory. Collaborate with lab personnel, faculty, and students to promote an effective and safe environment for optimal learning in all specialties across the lifespan.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist in operations:
    • Prepare skills labs and simulation rooms for upcoming activities.
    • Manage manikin software troubleshooting and software updates.
    • Prepare the simulation environment including IV insertions, IV preparation, medications in stock in med cart that match scenario to be run.
    • Test-run manikin and software functionality prior to simulation activities.
    • Facilitate student completion of post-simulation evaluation surveys.
  2. Maintain progressive learning related to simulation education in healthcare by:
    • Participating in running simulations from the control center, coordinating the use of cameras, and video-recording.
    • Demonstrate an interest in simulation theory/pedagogy.
  3. Other Duties:
    • Manage open lab during hours as assigned.
    • Offer guidance to students and faculty looking for supplies, and/or assistance with equipment.
    • Coach nursing students who are practicing psychomotor skills or who are using the lab for scheduled remediation.
    • Undertake special projects as assigned by the simulation coordinator/educator and/or graduate chair.

Qualifications

The Graduate Assistant must be admitted into a graduate nursing program at Rhode Island College and must commit to a position for no less than one full academic year. Other programs will also be considered when combined with relevant experience. Candidates must be well organized, have the ability to relate well with a diverse student population and must communicate effectively, orally, and in writing. Must be vigilant and able to uphold academic honesty. Must be punctual, reliable, and provide own transportation to the NEC located at 350 Eddy St. in Providence and RIC 600 Mt. Pleasant Ave. Providence. Knowledge of and proficiency with computer software applications (Microsoft Office programs) is required.
