Information for Teacher Candidates: Pre-Student Teaching and Student Teaching Information
Teacher candidates must review the information in each of the sections below to prepare for student teaching.
Accepted into the FSEHD. Teacher candidates should be accepted into the FSEHD. See FSEHD Undergraduate and Admissions page for admission information.
Meetings with Advisor. Schedule regular meetings with your advisor to review your program Rhode Map and All student teaching requirements (example: courses, required GPA, passing Praxis scores).
Completion of all required courses and Praxis exams. (RIDE Praxis Test Requirements and Qualifying Scores)
- Praxis Exams: Meet with your advisor and review your program Rhode Maps to determine when to complete the Praxis exams required for student teaching. Teacher candidates can not student teach without achieving the qualifying Praxis scores.
- Preparing for Praxis Exams: RIC (Learning Centers and Tutorial Services) provides tutoring services for students preparing to take Praxis exams.
Preparing to Student Teach Application
- If you are planning to student teach Spring 2023 or Fall 2023 please contact the Office of Partnerships and Placements (opp@ric.edu) to request a student teaching application.
Teacher candidates have requirements to complete prior to student teaching. Student teaching placements will not be secured for candidates who have not fulfilled all of the requirements by the specified deadlines.
Readiness for Student Teaching Checklist Assessment:
Teacher Candidates will upload evidence required for student teaching on Chalk and Wire. Program Coordinators will review the evidence and determine if all requirements for student teaching are met.
