Field Seminar Training

This 3-hour Field Seminar workshop will review policies and protocols for internship sites.   It will cover the structure of field (when field takes place, the hour requirements for students, field calendar) and roles and responsibilities (of field educator, faculty liaison, and student). We will review the basics of a learning contract: What it is, how it is developed, and how it is critically important in guiding the field placement.   
This seminar will review the significance of supervision in the field education experience. Field educators will gain insight into developing a positive working relationship, understand the importance of regularly scheduled supervision, as well as the importance of providing honest, ongoing feedback. We will assist supervisors with strategies for handling problems that could arise with students in field. Supervisors will understand the importance of problem solving and contacting the Faculty Liaison for support

Ethical Issues in Field Education

This workshop will provide a comprehensive overview of ethical and liability issues that should be addressed in field instruction. Participants will be provided with a typology that can be used to develop meaningful learning experiences for students. Topics such as confidentiality, clients' rights to self-determination, informed consent, boundary issues, violating the law or agency policy, whistle blowing, ethical decision making, documentation and malpractice risks will be covered. Participants are encouraged to bring their own disguised case material.

Field education is one of the most effective ways to enhance students learning in the social Work education. Appropriate and effective supervision is a staple in providing students with the best learning opportunity possible, however it does not come without its own challenges. In this seminar we will discuss how to establish and work through these challenges to meet both student and agency needs. Issues of how to work through issues of boundary setting, student breaks vs agency needs, and time management will also be discussed.

Identifying and understanding diversity is a cornerstone of social work practice. This seminar will be focused on the integration of Anti-Racist practices and decolonization of clinical supervision and management to effectively serve and supervise diverse populations. Techniques will be discussed regarding how to challenge students to take on all aspects regarding issues of diversity.
