The Institute for Education in Healthcare (IEH) at Rhode Island College is a leader in workforce development and system transformation for the state's healthcare industry. We identifying, develop, and implement the healthcare training programs needed by Rhode Island – working with healthcare providers, workers, and students; higher-education partners; state agencies; community organizations; and local schools.

Ladders to Licensure

This program creates an affordable and accessible pathway to clinical licensure for behavioral health workers employed at partner community-based organizations. Ladders to Licensure aids these behavioral health workers in pursuing RIC's Social Work and Clinical Mental Health programs by providing tuition assistance and the opportunity to participate in a summer graduate course at no cost.

Community Health Worker Association of Rhode Island (CHWARI)

Join CHWARI and and become informed about employment, professional development, and advocacy opportunities.

Community Health Worker Apprenticeship Program

This program provides mentoring and financial support to help Community Health Worker apprentices train, become certified, and then excel in community health work!

Community Health Worker/Peer Recovery Specialist Dual Apprenticeship Program

This program supports the dual certification of Community Health Workers (CHW) and Peer Recovery Specialists (PRS) and the placement of certified CHW and PRS candidates in apprenticeships.

Older Adults Specialty Endorsement

This program provides supportive training for healthcare and long term care staff who are working with older adults. 

Behavioral Health Training Program

Home Care Providers can leverage this program to get 30% of their direct care workers certified in RIC’s Para-Professional Behavioral Health Certificate Program. With this percentage of certified workers, you become eligible for the Behavioral Health Rate Enhancement through Medicaid.

Older Adults Specialty Endorsement

This program provides supportive training for healthcare and long term care staff who are working with older adults.
