Film Screening and Panel Discussion: "The Calling, A Medical School Journey"

We are excited to announce a unique opportunity that will be open to the public. High school students (and their families), alumni, and current college students interested in any of the health care professions are particularly encouraged to attend.

The RIC Pre-professional Health Advisory Committee will host a film screening of ‘The Calling: A Medical School Journey’. This documentary film produced by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and shown on PBS, follows students from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds into and through medical school. The film highlights students’ struggles, triumphs, and motivations. Through medicine, the film also deals with social inequities in our healthcare system and beyond. In attendance will be the film’s director Tim Smith, documentary filmmaker Bridgett Webb, and local doctors and medical school students from Brown.

Following the film, we will host a panel discussion with the filmmaker, doctors, and health care administrators. There will be opportunities for anyone in the audience to ask questions. This event will be a great opportunity for students to learn more about careers in the health professions and get advice.
