Why Earn an Early Childhood Education Bachelor's Degree at Rhode Island College?

  • The demand for early childhood educators is expected to grow even faster than elementary and high school teachers as the availability and awareness of preschool programs grow.
  • Our Early Childhood Education degree offers two concentrations: birth to 5 community programs and teaching. Students concentrating in teaching are eligible for full certification to teach Pre K–Grade 2 in Rhode Island.
  • Early Childhood Education majors have classes in Horace Mann Hall, a state-of-the-art facility for teacher preparation, and our students gain teaching experience in schools throughout Rhode Island.
  • Topics covered include: cognitive development and learning, social/emotional development, early childhood development, English language arts, mathematics and developmental literacy.

Please Note: There is no longer a secondary admissions process for this program. Applicants only need to apply through our general Admissions & Financial Aid processes.

General Education

All degree programs require the completion of one 3-4 credit course in each of the nine General Education categories and the completion of at least 40 total credits of General Education courses. The General Education Program provides a foundation for deeper study in a wide range of academic disciplines, enabling students to develop the skills and habits of mind necessary for full participation in an increasingly complex world.
